How to pick topics for your trivia night

Hard questions will not save a night whose packs were chosen for the wrong room. A football crowd will glaze over six art-history packs; a family with kids will leave if the jokes are written for adults. In Jawabaksa7 you choose 4, 5, or 6 topics before you start (default 6). Each library topic can mix true/false, multiple choice, order-lists, blanks, and short answers depending on what admins published. This page is about count, mix, and what to avoid.

Packs do not have to come from different categories. All six can be sport if that is your crowd. Variety helps when you do not know the guests: one pack everyone recognizes, one that a subgroup loves, and one challenge.

How many topics for this slot?

  • 6 topics: a full night of about 60–90 minutes with a break, sometimes four teams.
  • 5 topics: between a full night and a short session; useful if dinner runs late.
  • 4 topics: family, a class period, an office break, or after iftar when focus drops.

Change the count on the setup screen before you lock cards. If unsure, start with four; adding energy is easier than stopping a long night. Timing notes are in the first-host checklist.

A mix that works for most guests

General knowledge lets people who skip TV still play. A film or series “the house knows” creates shared shouts. Light sport works if the pack is not one club that half the room dislikes. One challenge pack is enough—two in a row crush a beginner team. In Ramadan and Eid, lower the density; see seasonal trivia.

Ask before you confirm: who knows this show? If two hands of twenty go up, swap the card. If you love a rare pack, save it for an announced “experts” round, not a mixed family night.

Common mistakes

  • Six niche packs for a mixed-skill room.
  • Topics that assume one country or dialect the guests do not share.
  • Skipping a test round after sign up—the first question in public is a bad time to learn the pack is too hard.
  • Stacking the hardest packs first; open easier so everyone enters the game.

Class, office, and family

In class, map the pack to the unit, not to a trend. At work, skip sharp politics and inside jokes new hires cannot parse. With children, pick age-appropriate themes and drop to four topics. Links: classroom, office, family.

After the cards are locked

Read how to play so you know the screen order. Set up the display as in the screens guide. If the group is Arabic–English, read the bilingual guide before you mix language packs without saying so.

Full night flow: host a trivia night. What appears inside a topic: question types.

Example: eight friends after dinner

Two teams, four topics: general knowledge, a series at least six of the eight have seen, light sport that is not one club, and one challenge pack in the second half. Do not open with the challenge. If two people arrive late, do not swap packs in front of them unless everyone agrees—swapping makes early guests feel their time was wasted. After the second pack, a short break; many nights die because nobody stood up for water.
